Welcome Message
The 5th Annual Congress of the Japan Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (JSUOG)
Chairperson of Congress Yuka Yamamoto
Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Juntendo University Hospital
Dear Colleagues,
My name is Yuka Yamamoto, and I am honored to serve as the President of the 5th Annual Congress of the Japan Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (JSUOG).
Although this marks the fifth iteration of our academic congress, it is the first to be held since JSUOG became an officially incorporated general association. Established in 2020, JSUOG aims to promote international advancement and collaboration in ultrasound medicine within the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Japan. The society plays a pivotal role as a bridge to the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ISUOG). Through activities such as year-round educational webinars and opportunities for English oral presentations during our annual congress, we strive to foster both academic excellence and international engagement.
The upcoming congress will be held on March 14 (Saturday) and 15 (Sunday), 2026, at the Ariyama Noboru Memorial Hall at Juntendo University in Tokyo. With the theme “Crossing Borders, Uniting Fields: Building the Foundation for the Future of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology,” we will continue the international perspective introduced at the 4th Congress by former Congress President Ritsuko Pooh. To further encourage young physicians in Japan—who may still feel a language barrier—we plan to conduct the first day in English and the second day in Japanese. We hope this structure will help convey the value and excitement of ultrasound medicine to a broader audience.
We aim to maintain a format similar to that of ISUOG, combining keynote lectures and oral presentations to inspire active discussion. In addition, we are planning special sessions to help motivate participants toward presenting in English.
Our featured special invited lectures will include a presentation by Prof. Balu Vaidyanathan, a pediatric cardiologist from Amrita Hospital, who has produced stunning 3D/4D fetal heart imaging and will share his insights on the latest advances in ultrasound technology. Indeed, we are honored to welcome Prof. Jin-Chung Shih from National Taiwan University Hospital, who has been actively engaged in ISUOG activities and is internationally recognized for integrating ultrasound imaging with clinical data in the management of placenta accreta spectrum, taking a proactive approach to high-risk cases. We are also pleased to welcome Prof. Hiroyuki Yamagishi from Tokyo Metropolitan Children’s Medical Center, known for his elegant and accessible presentations on fetal cardiac embryology, enriched with the latest research. Taking advantage of our hosting the conference, we will also invite Prof. Go Miyano from the Department of Pediatric Surgery, Juntendo University Hosoital, who will give a lecture on the clinical application of prenatal diagnosis with ultrasound in neonatal care.
We hope these inspiring sessions will help connect the many “dots” we encounter in clinical practice, ultimately forming a stronger foundation for future care.
It would be our great pleasure if this congress serves as an opportunity for you to broaden your academic horizons and rejuvenate your professional motivation. Conveniently located in Ochanomizu, Tokyo, the venue is easily accessible, and we sincerely look forward to welcoming many of you to join us. Please spread the word and invite your colleagues—we hope to see you there.
Warm regards,
Yuka Yamamoto, M.D.
